What Is Hospice Care?

Hospice care is a unique form of care that aims to improve the quality of life of people suffering from advanced, life-limiting illness and their caregivers. Hospice care offers compassionate care for individuals in the last stages of a terminal disease so that they may live as wholly and comfortably as possible. It is a kind of care that treats the person rather than the disease and focuses on the quality of life. This special type of care is delivered by a team of medical professionals. These professionals provide palliative and compassionate care to individuals in addition to emotional support for the families when curative treatment has been unsuccessful.

Our hospice services can be provided in the familiarity and comfort of one’s home, an assisted living facility, a nursing facility, personal care homes, or wherever the sick patient resides. Merit Hospice’s treatment begins with the belief that life is sacred. We treat the person, not the disease.

Merit Hospice team addresses all aspects of comfort care, including excellent medical care, pain management, and emotional/spiritual support. Our hospice care services and our patients’ care plans are designed to meet the needs and wishes of the patient and their families.

Who Pays for Hospice Care?

Hospice services are covered by Medicare, Medicaid, and most private insurance, and other forms of reimbursements for our services. There are no out-of-pocket expenses for patients and/or their families for services related to hospice diagnosis when payments are made by Medicare or Medicaid.

Admission to Merit Hospice is based on the patients’ needs rather than their ability to pay. In addition, patients’ social security benefits are not affected while they’re under the care of Merit Hospice.
